How do I add a link to an eBook in Blackboard?

Answer

To link to an eBook in Blackboard, first locate the eBook in HPU Discovery. (Contact a librarian if you need assistance.)

Click on the “View eBook” button in the item’s record. The majority of our eBooks are within EBSCOhost eBook Collection and ProQuest eBook Central. If in EBSCOhost eBook Collection, click “Permalink” on the right side of the page, and copy the link. If in ProQuest eBook Central, click “Share link to book” under the book cover image, and copy the link.

Then, follow the instruction on Durable URLs:

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open a plain text editor (e.g. Notepad for Windows or TextEdit for Mac). Do not use a word processor such as MS Word, as it imports extra code when you paste from it.
  2. Copy and paste into your plain text editor your Permalink, Stable URL, DOI link, etc.
  3. If it is present in the URL, remove this text: .hpu.idm.oclc.org
  4. Paste in front of your URL this HPU proxy prefix: https://hpu.idm.oclc.org/login?url=

That's it! You now have a durable URL customized for HPU-only access.

Finally, add the URL you created to the appropriate content area in Blackboard.
